Kerry Piper

Kerry Piper is a 31ft ‘Dee 25‘ bermudan sloop built in 1964 in Freckleton, Lancashire, England and designed by Peter Brett ( who went on to design the Rivals ). She is currently located on the Isle of Raasay.

She has completed a number of transatlantic voyages. Including rounding the North coast of Iceland in the early 2000’s as part of a larger transatlantic from Hamburg to New York.

In 2018 a restoration project was started on the coach house roof, with high quality materials purchased for this purpose. In early December 2018 the owner of the yacht John tragically passed away suddenly.

The purpose of this site is to help find a new owner for Kerry who has an interest in completing her restoration. The former owners of Kerry and friends of John are willing to assist in the process of moving her to a suitable location in the North West of Scotland that would facilitate her restoration.

She is currently moored in a secure tidal location and a heavy duty make shift tarpaulin cover was constructed to protect her while the coach house was being restored ( see photos below ). The coach house roof has been removed and a section of the forward port side would benefit from replacement. All windows, water tank and secondary fuel tank have been removed and are stored securely.

Much of the hard work has been done in terms of stripping her back to commence the restoration. The timber which was purchased for the restoration would be made available to any future owner.

For a restoration project of this scale it is probably worth moving her to a covered hard standing facility with a cradle ( such as the nearby Kishorn Port ) that would enable the bulk of the work to be completed in a timely fashion and not be dependent on the uncertain weather of a West coast Scottish summer.

A great deal of work, devotion and investment has gone into the project thus far as can be seen in some of the photographs. If you have a genuine interest in Kerry or know someone who may please circulate this information and get in contact with us to discuss. A full survey can be arranged.

Kerry was surveyed in Stornoway, Isle of Lewis in the Summer of 2013 ( available upon request). In early 2017 the stern section of deck was professionally replaced by a local boat builder with high quality marine plywood.
